Canada Greener Homes Initiative

Natural Resources Canada is providing funds for home evaluations and energy efficient retrofits, to a total of up to $5,600.

As part of the initiative, you have access to:

  • Grants from $125 to $5,000 to get a part of your costs back for eligible home retrofits.
  • Up to $600 as a maximum contribution toward the total costs of your pre- and post-retrofit energy evaluations.
  • Interest-free loans of up to $40,000 with a repayment term of 10 years to help you undertake major home retrofits.

It is important that you read all eligibility criteria and grant requirements to be sure that you will qualify for the grant at the end of the process. You must undertake an EnerGuide evaluation pre- and post-retrofit to be eligible for the retrofit grant.

How It Works


Check your eligibilty on the Natural Resources Canada website.


Register to the Canada Greener Homes Program and wait for your application to be approved by Natural Resources Canada.


Complete a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation with Sun Ridge Residential.


Complete at least one retrofit that is both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor in their report. Retrofits completed without having an evaluation completed first are not eligible for the grant.


Book your post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation with Sun Ridge Residential and apply for the grant.


Provide and keep copies of all of your home evaluation and retrofit documents until March 31, 2028.


Receive your grant. You will receive an email asking you to confirm your grant total. Once you confirm your grant total online, you will receive your cheque in the mail.

No. Your pre-retrofit evaluation must take place prior to any renovations taking place.
Yes. You will be asked to provide proof of ownership with your property tax bill and government-issued photo ID at the time of your pre-retrofit evaluation.
No. The Greener Homes Grant program focuses on upgrades that do not use fossil fuels. There may be provincial or municipal grants in your area that include natural gas powered systems.
The Energy Advisor may be in your home for 2 to 3 hours, depending on the size and complexity of your property.
Your Energy Advisor can explain each of the eligible retrofits to you and recommend the ones beneficial to your home.
Upgrades are often an excellent selling feature of any property. The EnerGuide label you receive from Sun Ridge Residential at the end of the grant process will be valuable information you can display in your mechanical room.
No. We can, however, answer your questions regarding quotes you receive pre-retrofit to ensure your upgrades will qualify for the grant.
New homes are not eligible for the grant. Newly built homes are defined as homes that are six months old or less, based on the date of occupancy by the first homeowner.
Yes. You may apply for any programs in your area that you are eligible for.
No. Our Energy Advisors will be inspecting each new window at the time of your post-retrofit evaluation. The program requires that they photograph the windows with labels still adhered.
Yes. There is a cost to each home evaluation as it does take several hours onsite and in office to complete. If your retrofits are approved, the Greener Homes Grant program will reimburse up to $600 for your evaluations. For more information about our pricing, click here.
