Radon 101

Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally when the uranium in soil and rock breaks down. It is invisible, odourless and tasteless. When radon is released from the ground into the outdoor air, it is diluted and is not a concern.

However, in enclosed spaces like homes, it can sometimes accumulate to high levels, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada. Long term exposure to high levels of radon in indoor air results in an increased risk of developing lung cancer. The risk of cancer depends on the level of radon and how long a person is exposed to those levels (Information Courtesy Health Canada).

To order your Radon test kit from the Saskatchewan Lung Association, please call 1‑306‑343‑9511 or visit the Saskatchewan Lung Association website.

Radon Mitigation

It is important to understand that there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution when it comes to Radon mitigation.

As the head of Sun Ridge's Radon Mitigation Team, Darcy Bzdel (B.Sc – Mechanical Engineering) is certified by the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program and is an accredited member of the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists & Technologists. Darcy and his Saskatchewan-based team understand the details of how a building operates and they can help you reduce the levels of Radon in your home.

The Sun Ridge Radon Mitigation Team is available to develop and implement the best mitigation plan based on the unique size, layout, and design of your home.
